Cricut Cake Suger cookies and The Cutting Cafe project

Here is my very first project using the Cricut Cake….here’s a few things that I have learned about the machine: …okay……..wow i spent all day yesterday and part of today working with this machine…all and all I have to say I am pleased………..BUT…it will take much practice for me at least…here’s a few things that I have learned: 1: need to get a better recipe for sugar cookies because the one I used was to buttery and when I went to cut using the machine the edges were to raggedy..(that is why the strawberry looks a little raggedy)….so what I found to work was I added lots of flour to the dough to make it a bit rougher then rolled on the mat and stuck it in the freezer for about 20 minutes and then the cuts CUT LIKE BUTTER…(funny I used that BUTTER word after saying I needed a recipe that was buttery..he he)… 2. the sheet that came in the package from hsn…didn’t work for me one bit…yuck…maybe I did something wrong…but the brown was horrible just like the red…but it was probably me… 3. I love the fondant from Michaels..I bought the box of white and then a box of ****orted food colorings to get the green and red colors of the projects below…the brown on the tree was a piece from the ones from hsn…anyHOO, the fondant was perfect to re-color…I think I will go this way most of the time ….. besides the colors that I might buy premade….I haven’t tried the gum paste yet… 4. I really need to have more mats…it would have made things

have you tried using this machine with homemade gun paste or fondant? I was curious if it cut the same as store bought. What awesome cookies!!! :-) You have a new subscriber!

So you cut cookie dough…I did not realize that you could do that also, I thought it was only fondant.

@thecuttingcafe You need to put a very thin layer of Crisco. It can’t be white, just clear, then a thin layer on the frosting sheet. If you put too much Crisco it will raise the frosting sheet up too much and the blade will tear it. Hope this helps you. I only had the frosting sheets (no gum paste) and even the delicate cuts turned out great.
    Good luck!

Wow, impressive. I also subscribed to your blog looking forward to trying that cookie recipe! Thanks for posting and have fun with your projects. I got mine, but since I closed my shop I’m not messing with it until I have taken care of a few things. I’m also going to be taking a class with Linda!

@jasmine0820 hI Jasmine, I actually used the fondant from Michaels, the white one…I just added food coloring to the white….the sheets that came with the machine didn’t work for me…errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I love this video! I ordered my bundle from HSN and now I’m just waiting for it in the mail… I can’t wait for it to come in, and my first project will be sugar cookies! Did you use just a liquid fondant for the icing? Thank you so much for sharing! :]
