Hello all! Kristen Swain here with a super fun and sweet gift you can create using your Cricut machine and some fabric. My kids are a little bit older, in their teen and tween stages, but I still managed to create a critter that charmed them both. I picked out fat squares at the craft store and matched all the colors to the brown fabric. What I didn’t realize was that it would be perfect to coordinate with my daughters room. He now sits comfortably with her pillows after she makes her bed in the morning. I cannot say enough how much fun I had creating this pillow pet, he is so cute and charming. What a great little gift for a young child, and since Cricut has an entire cartridge of adorable animals (Create a Critter cartridge), you can make a whole zoo of pillow pets, perfect for both boys and girls!
I ironed on some Medium weight Heat and Bond interfacing to my fabric pieces first, then I cut the larger pieces on my Cricut Expression machine. First you’ll want to put your fabric facing down and using max pressure and low speed.
I cut some of my smaller pieces out by first cutting cardstock and tracing onto the fabric, since with the smaller pieces the cuts were harder to cut cleanly with the Cricut Expression machine.
When it was time to put the raccoon together, I started with his face. After tracing the mouth shape onto the fabric, I used floss to stitch the mouth on the face. I then found a couple unevenly shaped white buttons, topped them with black buttons and added them for his eyes. After stitching around the mask, I added a really large button for his nose.
When I was finishing him, I cut his shadow out of two pieces of pink fabric, then stitched them together right sides facing out. When I finished that and had him stuffed and completely stitched, I used pinking shears to trim his edges closely. Here is one last photo of him away from the bright pillows, hope you enjoy!
