Know anyone graduating this year? How fun would it be for them to see this cute sign in their yard? I love this owl image from the Create a Critter cartridge and use it whenever I can. Adding a graduation cap to it makes it perfect for your graduation projects. You could make your sign according to the recipients school colors or favorite colors. The sign pieces were easily embellished with ribbon and tassels, but you could really go crazy with other embellishments depending upon the level graduating, type of school, graduate’s personality, etc.
The Owl is cut to fill a 12 x 12 mat and I’ve labeled each layer in the cut file in the order they assemble, owl 1, owl 2, etc., to help you get your colors selected. Mine is done in the order of the picture with owl 1 being the bottom piece, the shadow layer.
I was able to emboss the graduation cap top piece by angling it in a 5 x 7 folder. For the base of the image, knowing only the bottom of that layer would show, I made sure that all of it was inside my A2 folder and didn’t worry about anything outside of it.
I thought it would be fun to use a yard stick for a sign post and glued the images directly to it. Then I cut the shadows/blackouts of the images to put on the pack for extra stability and for a more finished look. You could adhere the images to a large rectangular shape and then adhere that to a post, but I really wanted to image shapes to be my sign shape.
Give this idea a try for your next occasion and a little Cricut fun to your front yard.
