Hello,! everyone Ginger Williams here again with a Mother’s Day Cricut Cake project to share. I’ve been wanting to get to know my Cricut Cake Machine a bit better for a couple of months now, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity!
I have played around with cutting pre-made frosting sheets before and found them to be easy and fun to use, but a bit limited in the color selection. This time I wanted to be able to have very specific colors to go along with the very vibrant colors of my Mother’s Day Pink Lemonade Pie, so I turned to gum paste. I purchased some pre-made gum paste from a local hobby store and tinted the different colors myself with some gel based food coloring. This worked out really well. I had the exact colors I wanted and was able to make them in the quantities I needed.
I found the pre-made gum paste to be really easy to work with in the Cricut Cake Machine. I learned quickly that you really do want to roll out the gum paste very thin for the cuts to be perfectly clean, and I learned that the paste sticks very well to the cake mat–maybe even a little bit too well, so I used a thin layer of butter on the top of my mat to make removing my designs a little easier. This also seemed to help keep the gum paste from drying out too quickly while I was working with it.
After cutting my flowers, I shaped them and then let them dry before using a little bit of frosting to hold the layers together. I perched some of them on the tops of some empty bottles to help them keep their upturned shape as they dried. Once they were dry, they were quite firm and very easy to work with.
The pie was a wonderful recipe I found on Pinterest and makes a delightful summer treat! Hopefully, I’ll have it again myself on Mother’s Day! I found that the flowers stuck to each piece perfectly since the top layer of the pie is whipped cream.
Once I got all the flowers on the pie pieces I was amazed and just how wonderfully “dressed up” they looked. The Cricut Cake flowers took a great recipe from good to fabulous! I had to keep hand swatting away my 3 boys and my husband so that I could take a few photos before they ate everything so they must have looked pretty tasty to them! I’m so glad I took the time to learn my machine’s capabilities better!
Thanks for stopping by today! See you again soon!
