A Cricut allows you to cut through various materials (paper, fabric, light card, acrylic sheets, etc) and make your own die-cuts. You can buy cartridges that offer various shapes and fonts for you to cut out. You can vary the size of the cutouts.

There are a lot of videos on Youtube that compare various die-cutting machines. Other die-cutting machines are the Silhouette and the black Cat. Here is a video abotu the Cricut Expressions machine, for example:
